Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.

Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

SRE AT COBBITTY PUBLIC SCHOOL

At Cobbitty Public School, SRE is delivered each Thursday from 11:00am - 11:30am.

Students who do not attend SRE will be provided with supervised alternative meaningful activities, such as values-based lessons. During this learning time, students are in a separate physical space from SRE classes and are supervised by a member of the school staff.

On enrolment, parents/carers will be given the SRE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE, including withdrawal, should be given to Cobbitty Public School in writing.

All Special Religious Education providers provide the school with current Working with Children Check (WWCC) clearances to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.

Cobbitty Public School currently offers Anglican SRE, which is provided by SRE teachers from Cobbitty Anglican Church. The approved provider in this arrangement is the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. All Anglican SRE teachers are authorised and trained by an approved provider. The Anglican SRE curriculum is authorised by CEP (including Beginning with God, Connect, Big Questions). The curriculum is based on Good News about Jesus Christ and learning the key elements of our Christian life and culture and can be found at www.whysre.com.au/cepcurriculum. Anglican SRE engages students in conversations as they question life, explore values and discover faith.
